Sony Center am Potsdamer Platz
The Potsdamer Platz is center of culture and architecture of the New Berlin. Here the Sony Center am Potsdamer Platz opened in the year 2000. The innovative building complex of glass and steel became the international hub of economy, culture and communication. Easily visible from a distance, the transparent roof construction of the Sony Center is one of the most succinct landmarks of Berlin.
Every day the Sony Center on average takes 23,000 visitors in the spell. People meet, work and live at the Sony Center – and they enjoy all facets of the exciting life within such a unique urban space. Representative office space and apartments, first class gastronomy, as well as shopping opportunities, cinemas, culture and entertainment fascinate up to 8.4 Million visitors per year.
Furthermore, the open air event location also offers stylish design and a unique setting for a glossily dignified mise-en-scène for corporate events and product promotions.
Since 2012 the advertising industry exploits the various opportunities offered by Augmented Reality at the Sony Center, in order to playfully create emotional brand experience. C&A celebrated the opening of its 500th store with ‘stars to touch’ on a virtual catwalk. Guests were integrated into the scene by means of augmented reality and they were admired together with model coach Bruce Darnell and top model Sara Nuru on the LED video wall.
Also international campaigns take place at the Sony Center on a regular basis. On the initiative of the Children’s Fund ‘Plan’, October 11th, 2012 was selected for the first World Girl’s Day of the United Nations (UN). On this day Plan started its global campaign ‘Because I am a Girl’. For the first time the Sony Center roof was illuminated with the official pink campaign color, in order to draw special attention to the concerns of girls. The light signal was passed into the world like a baton – parallel in time with ‘Red Fort’ in Delhi, the big wheel ‘London Eye’, the ‘CN-Tower’ in Toronto and the ‘Empire State Building’ in New York, which were all also illuminated in pink.
The Sony Center am Potsdamer Platz is a place for communication and a meeting place for Berliners and tourists just the same. Here people share experiences and emotions at a place, which continuously creates a fascination with a strong magnetic effect.
